"La Batalla de Aughrim fue el enfrentamiento decisivo de la Guerra Guillermita de Irlanda y en él se encontraron los jacobitas y las fuerzas de Guillermo de Orange el 12 de julio de 1691 en las cercanías de Aughrim, en el condado de Galway. Fue la batalla más sangrienta de la historia irlandesa con más de 7000 muertos. Significó el fin efectivo de la causa jacobita en Irlanda, aunque la ciudad de Limerick aún resistió hasta el otoño de ese año."

"El director John Sayles realiza una obra con referencias evidentes al realismo mágico y que retrata en forma acertada el ambiente y las tradiciones de un pueblo irlándes en torno a pescadores y el mar. The Secret or Roan Inish toma elementos del cine fantástico para adentrarnos en los Selkies, criaturas mitológicas que son parte de las leyendas de alta mar de Irlanda. El Selkie es una foca que tiene la capacidad para deshacerse de su piel y así transformarse en llamativas mujeres u hombres. Cuenta la leyenda que si un humano encuentra la piel de la foca, puede someter a ésta a su voluntad. Los Selkies en su forma humana pueden concebir hijos. Y si encuentran la piel escondida por su pareja humana, rápidamente se transformarán en focas para volver al mar."

Banda de sonido de este maravilloso film costumbrista que logra a pura narrativa y absolutamente sin efectos especiales, introducirnos de lleno en la mitología de estos seres de una manera realista y cercana a la vida cotidiana. La música recurre a piezas tradicionales conocidas como "The Butterfly", arregladas por Mason Daring así como a composiciones de su propia autoría.

"Gráinne Hambly del condado de Mayo es una exponente del arpa irlandesa reconocida internacionalmente. Comenzó a tocar música irlandesa en whistle a una edad temprana, antes de pasar a la concertina y más tarde al arpa. Vivió en Belfast durante seis años, donde realizó una Maestría en Musicología, otorgada por la Queen's University en 1999. Su principal tema de investigación fueron las colecciones de música folclórica y el arpa en la Irlanda del siglo XVIII. También completó el Diploma de Posgrado en Educación (Música) en la Universidad de Limerick.

Originario de Glasgow, William Jackson fue miembro fundador y tour de force creativo de Ossian, que se convirtió en una de las bandas tradicionales más queridas de Escocia. Además de ser un arpista y multiinstrumentista de renombre, William se ha ganado una reputación internacional como compositor de música inspirada tanto en elementos tradicionales como clásicos.
