The Baltimore Consort - On The Banks of Helicon: Early Music of Scotland (1990)

Otro magnífico álbum de The Baltimore Consort, esta vez con música del renacimiento escocés, barroco temprano, música de las cortes, con notable influencia de la música folclórica de raíz celta perteneciente a ese país que surgen de los instrumentos tradicionales como gaitas y flautas, la increíble voz de la soprano Custer LaRue en maravillosas baladas, sumado a la instrumentación que el ensamble ofrece en su repertorio más clásico.

El texto de introducción del cd deja una excelente descripción sobre las piezas que contiene:

"La mayor parte de la música escocesa en este disco tiene más de 400 años, y sin embargo, golpea nuestros oídos como contemporánea en su frescura y originalidad. Los compositores escoceses, cuyos nombres están en su mayoría perdidos o al menos separados de sus composiciones originales, tenían un don para la melodía expresiva. A pesar de que la influencia francesa e inglesa era muy fuerte en los círculos cortesanos, los géneros importados de la danza, la chanson y el canto acompañado se transformaron en un producto propio y único escocés"

The Baltimore Consort - The Mad Buckgoat: Ancient Music of Ireland (1999)

Tres de las incursiones discográficas de The Baltimore Consort, ensamble de música medieval y renacentista, están relacionadas con los países de raíces celtas, una es el excelentísimo "On the Banks of Helicon: Early Music of Scotland", con piezas del renacimiento escocés, música de las cortes, que dejaba traslucir melodías y baladas del folclore de Escocia. Tuvo algo así como una continuación años después con "Adew Dundee: Early Music of Scotland". La otra es este maravilloso "The Mad Buckgoat..." con melodías tradicionales irlandesas, algunas de una antigüedad de siglos, para las cuales la soprano Custer LaRue transforma y adapta su increible voz para deslumbrarnos en un registro puramente folk. Baladas (algunas cantadas en gaélico, otras en inglés), danzas, reels, jigs, alegría, melancolía, tristeza, todo en 60 minutos de antología, con el acompañamiento de gaitas, flautas, whistles, bodhran, además de la habitual intrumentación que el ensamble usa para su repertorio clásico.

Otro de los albumes imprescindibles para los amantes del folk y la música celta.
