El maestro catalán de la música medieval y fundador de Hespèrion XXI se adentra de lleno en el repertorio musical celta con melodías irlandesas y escocesas para un instrumento no típico de esa música, la viola da gamba, seleccionando 29 melodías de un manuscrito encontrado en la Biblioteca de Manchester en 1970. Acercándose a esta música en el contexto histórico en el que fueron creadas en cuanto a ejecución y sonoridad del instrumento, sin los modernismos de la música folk más actual o comercial, más bien interpretándola desde el punto de vista de la música clásica barroca y renacentista, de la manera más próxima a la época y a las formas en las que originalmente fueron interpretadas y recopiladas para dicho instrumento.
